The Power of a Teachable Moment

Oct 13, 2014 | by Janice Smith

You may have seen some of our Tweets or Facebook updates chronicling our travels around the West Coast over the past month.  We’ve been visiting some great schools, observing incredible teachers, and getting a chance to chat with the school leaders who are creating both.  In the past two weeks we’ve gotten to start filming, and are excited to begin adding them to our library.  All this to say, we couldn’t be more excited to share with you this week Samantha Thomas, an extraordinary Kindergarten teacher at Cornerstone Preparatory Academy in San Jose (a BES school if you’re familiar with their work).

This clip is a powerful example of how teachable moments go a long way in setting the tone for your classroom, and in this case developing a safe, supportive learning environment for all students.  Click on the picture below to take you straight to all the video greatness!

Next week?  Get excited for a rigorous high school Socratic Seminar at another great Bay Area school!
